The Antwerp logistics player Zuidnatie is the only terminal operator in Europe to be nominated for the Heavy Lift Awards 2022. The prestigious prize will be awarded on September 22, 2022 in Hamburg, Germany.
With the nomination in the category 'Port/Terminal Operator of the Year', Zuidnatie - which is owned and controlled by the Feys family - is the only port company in Belgium and the only terminal operator in Europe to be selected. The prize is awarded to the port authority or terminal operator who has proven its capabilities in loading and unloading heavy cargo.
The jury judged the participating companies on the basis of safe and efficient handling of large loads, investments in new equipment and facilities for the storage and handling of large loads, maintenance of existing facilities, minimum waiting times for customers and investments in technology to facilitate loading procedures. optimize.
Safe and efficient
"We are very pleased to be a finalist. We were able to demonstrate to the jury that our operations of project material and heavy loads are always safe and efficient. We will of course continue these activities in the future and remain alert and accessible for new projects," says Marc Van Aken, CCO at Zuidnatie.
Zuidnatie has a series of mobile cranes, two of which can carry tandem lifts up to 400 tons. The company also has its own SPMT (self propelled modular transporter) hydraulic trailer and an 8,000m² heavy-lift consolidation center with maximum floor capacity of up to 150t/m².
Buttress
Zuidnatie is one of the oldest buttresses of the port of Antwerp. On June 22, 2022, Zuidnatie celebrated its 150th anniversary. In 2021, the company handled 2.2 million tons of general cargo, 50,000 tons of dry bulk cargo and more than 500,000 teu – via its container division Becomar – at the three terminals on the right bank. The company has about 300 employees.
